Maybe the problem is in your rendering settings. Try to render to "YUV4MPEG stream" and pipe the output to ffmpeg where you can encode it with any codec. Rendering directly to quicktime + MPEG4 caused artifacts in my case. Your pictures' resolution seems to be ok.
