i wonder if you could share your "perfect workflow". I have been trying for quite some time to figure out how to use Cinelarra, but have not found a workflow that I could use effectively.

I never find it odd, hard or unintuitive. I do what I want, when I want, with the results I want. It's like writing with a fountain pen! And then, yesterday, it hit me: the very first time I installed Linux on my computer (it was 2006 or something), I did it because of Cinelerra. Everything on my PC (except for Windows) already was opensource, I just needed a good video editor to replace Adobe Premiere. I read about Cinelerra and that made me try Linux - and I never went back to Windows since. Cinelerra's workflow is perfect for the way I "think" the editing process, and it's responsible for me being a full time Linuxian.
