Well, vtp v3 is compatible with vtp v1,2 but you can't use vtp v1 with vtp version 2 and vice versa...
To get advantage of extended vlans transfer you need to have vtp version 3... I need IOS on the 720s in order to use the DFCs, but VTPv3 only seems to be available for SRC on the 7600... The 720s and SUP2 systems form the redundant core and core fanout and need to maintain the exact same vlan set. Everything downstream of this group is distribution through edge and is not VTP enabled. I can drop back to VTPv2 for all, but this leaves be with no sync of vlans > 1005. Looking for suggestions as to vlan management tools/etc that could be used to keep the extended range vlans in sync, and am surprised that I have not found anything. All I need to be able to do is Keep a central list and push to 12 systems. OR Read one system and sync the others. I would love to find a via SNMP script that does a one sync including removal. Suggestions? (Or is it time to crack the perl books?). Thanks The correct solution is Cisco releasing vtpv3 for 6500 IOS, but I have been hearing "any time now" for about 2 years... -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Christopher E.
