It seems, that this switch ignores blank lines as it results in:
banner motd#
This is __switchname__
Blabla
Unauthorized .

Anyone with a similar experience?
I get the same. My workaround is to dump the config over TFTP
somewhere, tweak up the banner there, and copy it back. That seems to
work...albeit it is truly horrible as solutions go.
I simply wrote my banner motd config to a text-file and copied
it to the switch using copy tftp://x.x.x.x/banner.txt running-config.
No need to copy the whole configuration.
It works if its done that way.
