This post would be for those of you in a DC environment with multiple internet feeds. When carrier X emails about a 12:00 - 6:00 maintenance window for IOS upgrade, reboot, card swap, etc. are you influencing your eBGP traffic away from that carrier during the maintenance window? Alternative being DO NOTHING and take the hard outage of eBGP state dropping once and quite possibly bouncing a number of times during maintenance. For those of you who answer back with the first option (influence with prepend and local pref) have you seen your external VPN connectivity drop and re-establish during those changes? If my memory serves me right, in my prepending and local pref changes, I have NOT seen connectivity impacted what so ever. However, I HAVE seen connectivity impacted during maintenance hard eBGP state changes.
