I think I encountered the same problem a lond time ago and didn't find any solution. Possible burst size on some switches are too small to support high bit rates that causes losses far before target rate is achived. As workaroung I can advise only select another device for policing.

Hi All,

what would be the normal burst size in policer on 3550 cisco switch for
500 Mbps.

what normal burst size i should use although it does support with
max 2000000

Switch#police 500000000 ?
  <8000-2000000> Normal burst bytes

#show policy-map
  Policy Map 500Mbps_OUT
    Class ALL_OUT
      police 500000000 62500 exceed-action drop

I am using below IOS image

System image file is "flash:c3550-ipservicesk9-mz.122-25.SEB4.bin"

Can i use any other IOS to support more normal burst size.

Thanks & Regards,
