For curiosity - why *not* MPLS? It really sounds like a job for VPLS,
but you obviously have some reason not to do that.
Well, I need to attach these devices to the access ports on the edge of
the network. For a VPLS service I would need to privison an MPLS enabled
VLAN on the access layer, wouldn't I? That seems rather complicated
though this might just be my inexperience saying that.
The VLAN is just a plain old VLAN as far as the layer2 network is concerned.
The differences all exists at the MPLS PE router.
