I've never heard of any serious talk of deprecating 2.4Ghz for Wifi.
Sure, it would solve a lot of problems, but as others have mentioned,
there are some benefits to 2.4Ghz.
As has been mentioned, one thing you can do today is to turn of
802.11b. That stuff is evil. Read details here

Second, as I mentioned before, band select might help you "encourage"
devices to associate to the 5.8Ghz band.
Even with user devices moving to 5.8Ghz, we're still going to see
congestion at 2.4Ghz- think about all the Bluetooth, 802.15.4 (ZigBee),
6LoWPAN.
Long term, there are some interesting things that are happening- there
is 802.11ad (60Ghz), LiFi, but those are topics for another thread....

Depends on your client base. In healthcare, probably not anytime soon.
There are still devices being manufactured with 2.4Ghz radios. Given the
long life cycle of some medical equipment, you could easily be looking at
supporting 2.4Ghz for many, many years.
Have you played around with Band Select?
