Its not about actually changing vendor, its about threatening to do so.

An important caveat to this is that you need to engineer your network so that this is a credible option at all times, and continually survey the market for possible alternatives to equipment.

This also implies avoiding proprietary technology such as TrustSec, EIGRP, and similar :o(
