I need to connect to the serial console port of a remote cisco switch.
I have IP connectivity, but cannot get serial or dialup.
Looking for recommendations on small 1 or 2 port ethernet-serial terminal
server.
Preferably one with some security on it, and that allows us to ssh direct to
the serial port.
Power control would be an added bonus but not mandatory.
cheap solution:
Openbsd on an HP Neoware thin client box
you get 2 db9 serial ports and a full OS, ssh, secure, pf firewall rules,
nat etc. Load minicom from packages and you have your serial console
server with a nice feature-rich terminal emulator.
add dual port pci-x card and setup a bridge group and you have a mini 2
port ethernet switch too. run dhcp on the vether0 logical interface (like
cisco bvi) and you can connect 2 devices via ethernet you need to talk to,
like an RSA or ILO or DRAC.
We use Lantronix SLC console servers in our larger sites. These work well,
but do not have a 1 port model.
Any suggestions / use case ?
