I recall a couple of years back hearing about how Cisco was in the process of 
developing a global directory of Cisco Collab clients that organizations could 
register in so that there could exist a sort of easy integration.

Was this what SME was all about? Did this ever come to fruition?

It was supposed to work in such a way that when you dial a telephone number the 
call was placed normally, but a search also took place in the registry, and if 
it existed, the next time you called that number, the call was placed through 
the registry, and via ip.

Sounded great at the time.
