I recommend 3 2501's, a 2509 or 2511, a 26xx or 36xx with 4 serial or 4
sync/async interfaces, and a catalyst switch such as the 5002 or old 29xx's.
The 2501's will allow you to run many different protocols at once (rip,
igrp, eigrp, ospf, etc, the 2509/2511 will act as your terminal server, the
26xx/36xx will act as a frame switch and the serial interfaces need not be
T1, 128k/115,200 sync/async will suffice. The catalyst will allow you to set
up vlans, multicast, etc. Thats my take on it.

A set of 3 2514's work out nicely. The 2514 routers have 2 ethernets and 2
serial interfaces. You can also use 3 2501's (which is what most people opt
for). The 2501's have 1 ethernet and 2 serial interfaces. You need 3
routers to simulate a frame-relay "cloud." You connect the routers in a
cascaded fashion turning the center router into a frame switch and mapping
DLCIs from one segment to the other.
A 2513 is a nice token ring router tha provides 1 token ring, 1 ethernet and
2 serial interfaces. The token ring routers are generally fairly cheap by
comparision. However, you must keep in mind you will need some token ring
cables and a MAU.
Good luck,
Gregg
