Yep, I will second that.
I was hired to be the Network and Facility Administrator. I got into
trouble (kind of) because I got tired of hearing one of the junior Sys Admin
complaining about MS when he was repairing a server and help him out. My
boss came by and told me to get back to my stuff and let the junior admin do
his job. He said I was hired to do Cisco and not MS. I am starting to tell
the other staffs (users) that as soon as it come out of the wall jack, it is
not my responsibility and they have to talk to the other MIS staffs.
By the way, I only have two months experiences. (no IT before this job)
Live in a high cost and low IT wage area, Vancouver Canada, and make more
than $29,000us.
Get motivated, I mean studying. Read everything on this list. If you see
ANY thing that you don't understand, find the answer in CCO. Practice at
home every night. Put yourself on a schedule to get your CCNP in four
months. THAN go and have a talk with your boss. If you know your stuff
(even with less than 1 year experiences), you will be able to find a fun job
that pays well and is challenging. I did. I just finish setting up a VoIP
(with help of people on this list). I am now doing the planning for a 144
VoIP setup, collocation for our server farm, planning a redesign of our
entire network.
Oh, start collecting business cards.
