I've come across this problem before...the 2900 & 1900(XL?) are not very
reliable, and once one port goes, then a bank of four ports start to play up
as well!
In general, here are some step which I use to troubleshoot such faults!
1. Connect via the console port, and physically power cycle the
switch...then monitor the POST messages which appear on the terminal...if
there are any errors detected by the POST they will appear at this
stage...if you see any then you've got a duff-switch!
2. Failing that, save the running config to TFTP, and then delete the config
image...do a fresh config with a single VLAN (nothing fancy)...then check
the ports one by one. If this works out OK, then you had a mis-configured
image!
3. Failing that, delete the IOS image, reload the latest...checl field
notices as well @ Cisco site...and try step two again. If this works then
you had a faulty IOS image...failing that....Duff Switch!!!
Let everyone know what happens!
Later...
Serge :)
