You can also change the RPC binding order for the exchange client to bind
TCP/IP first. This fixes 90% of the slow Outlook (on open) issues I run
into. I can guide you further if you need it.

Just as a test you might want to put a host file on a workstation

myexchange ). Upon resetting the nbtstat, see if your Outlook 97 message
doesn't
pop up very quickly.  If it does ( it probably will ) you either need to
modify
your DNS or main hosts file.
