Hi Muhamad,

Some implementations use different TTL values (up to I believe 255). For example, 98 
(and I think all Microsoft OSs) use a value of 128 when originating a packet. As 
Leonard stated this value is decremented by each intervening router by at least 1. So, 
I orignate a packet with a value of 128, after it leaves the first router, it has a 
value of 127, etc. I would also like to state that the specifications state that this 
value is incremented by at least 1 and that if a packet is excessively delayed, it can 
be reduced by a value of more than 1 (this is not really done in the real world).

When this value reaches 0, the packet is discarded and an ICMP Time Exceeded message 
is sent back to the originator.
