I would definitely say go for it ... thre isn't much to "basic" or even intermediate LAN switching and IO am sure you will be able to cope. Just have confidence in yourself, and while you are getting used to the environment, just be very throughtful about each command you enter. I still often open up kedit (notepad) and do a "dry" config before implementing on a live system. Go through each command and think about what the consequences are.
