Simon, Async /Sync port works at max 128 Kbps in sync mode and 115.2 Kbps in async mode.
The port may not work if driven beyond the rated speeds. I know that over there you have either 64 Kbps links or 2048 Kbps synchronous links from DoT. What is this 250 Kbps link that you have observed working on a Async / Sync port ? I know for sure that the Async / Sync port did not work with my 256K or 512K radio modem links in sync mode. Just to make sure, check the controller of the serial interface. Maybe you are connected to a WIC-2T or maybe in asynchronous mode, the port can be overdriven. Regards.
