as far as my understanding goes you need to finish a higher certification before the expiry of you CCNA to be automatically renewed. Or you will need to re-certify yourself for CCNA also in order to complete CCNP. Do you loose all these exams and redo the whole thing ? No U don't loose all the exams, you will need to re-certify at certifiction levels only, For eg: If u have completed 2 papers but ur ccna is not valid then u can re-certify CCNA and complete rest to get a valid CCNP.
