Not sure what you mean by "local loop." If you mean what the telco provides, then it could be a T-1, E-1, or 56k line. If between router interface and CSU/DSU, the interface is called a five-in-one because it supports several: RS-232, V.35, EIA-530, X.21, EIA-449.
