you can either use IRB w/ BVI (Inner Routing Bridging with Bridge Virtual
Interfaces) and create BVI groups for your "VLANs". But in my case I have
2948g that will only support 802.1q which is not supported by BVI (BVI only
ISL), so I am going to use channel groups as my routing.
http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/473/29.html#e3-trunk
interface port-channel 1
description Channel_to_3508g_0/7
interface port-channel 2
description Channel_to_3508g_0/8
interface gigabitEthernet 49
no shutdown
channel-group 1
interface gigabitEthernet 50
no shutdown
channel-group 2
interface port-channel 1.1
encapsulation dot1q 1 native
interface port-channel 1.2
ip address x.x.x.x 255.255.255.0
encapsulation dot1q 2
ip helper-address x.x.x.x
interface port-channel 1.3
ip address x.x.x.x 255.255.255.0
encapsulation dot1q 3
ip helper-address x.x.x.x
etc.etc.etc
I do not have the box know to test, but soon will
Hope this helps,
Matt

Sanjay,
Yes the 2948 does perform routing. This was taken from the whitepaper
"High-performance---over 10-Mpps L3 switching and routing of IP, IPX,
and IP multicast"
