to get decent gifs you have to "ungroup" all the icons on the page.
i.e., a single icon may be made up of several simple icons.
if you ungroup these (all of them)the gif will turn out much better.
I think you can select them all and then un group them. Visio will complain
that the smart connections will get broke so I suggest you save the diagram
under another name and then ungroup everything and save as a gif.
