This is slightly off topic but I will try and answer:
> 1)Where can I get the software?
>From Hewlet Packard (hence the name HP OpenView) :-)
> 2)What network information I need before installing?
You will need the basic information to get the Sun workstation online and
connected plus the SNMP passwords used in your organization. You will also
need any registration codes required by HP.
> 3)Whether the HP OV admin is different from Solaris admin account?
Absolutely. HP OpenView Admin is responsible for the administration of the
HP OpenView software. The Solaris Admin (root) is responsible for the
Operating System Software.
> 4)Where do I draw the diagram of the company network?
The software will discover a section of your network and attempt to draw a
reasonable diagram. You may, move the icons to suit your purposes.
> 5)Should I do anything on the routers, switches or sun station in order
for
> information to be sent from network devices to servers
Yes you need to install SNMP. Look up the following command in the Cisco
documentation set:
ON Routers:
snmp community {public} ro
snmp community {private} rw
snmp host {NMS IP ADDRESS}
snmp traps
On switches:
set snmp community read-only ..
set snmp community read-write ...
set snmp community read-write-all
set snmp host ..
set snmp traps ...
Again you should be fully aware of the commands you are using before
implementation on an operational network. You can open huge security holes
if you are not careful.
Finally I recommend you first install in the lab. There are many things you
must consider before implementation. For example, do you have any ISDN
lines? Plus my answer only scratches the surface as to what is required.
Good luck,
Paul Borghese
