> I got into significant trouble with Cisco marketing/political correctness when I used one of my personal mnemonics for remembering some of their standard presentation icons. Referring to the crossed and somewhat crooked arrows on the standard ATM switch icon, I commented that the graphic always reminded me of "a swastika drawn by a dyslexic Nazi." Hey -- that's really the way I remember it. The Cisco regional VP for New York banned me from speaking at any events under his jurisdiction. In all fairness, when I worked with training partners, Worldwide Training generally let me get away with more "unauthorized" or "inappropriate" comments than they allowed for most CCSI's. Such things as "This protocol slide is wrong. Remember, for purposes of exams, how it is explained here -- and let me go to the board and show you how it actually works." Or, "product XXX or feature YYY isn't always a good thing to use, but it is better than the competition." But there's definitely been a tendency, over the nine years or so I've worked with Cisco materials, to see increased concern over image and political correctness, and less with technical content. When I say "materials," I'm talking about courseware and seminars, not the very accurate discussions with Cisco engineers on mailing lists, the IETF, NANOG, etc. Cisco was once a technology-driven company, but the reality is that it's now a marketing-driven company. That's not necessarily right or wrong, but it is a reality. >hehehehe....you might get a few raised eyebrows in your classes for that >one! > >-----Original Message----- >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of >Bradley J.
