Nigel is absolutely right.  You need to use ports that are
Synchronous/Asynchronous.  You cannot turn a physically synchronous port
into a asynchronous port by merely adding a command like you can to a combo
port.  Thus you need to get your hands on a 2520/2521/2522/2523 router to do
what you want.   I seem to recall reading that the 4 port interface modules
for the 4000 series are combo ports, but I could be mistaken.
