A Cisco router actually does a loopback by default every 10 seconds on 
Ethernet and Fast Ethernet interfaces. Cisco calls it a keepalive, but it's 
the same as the old-fashioned loopback frame.

There's no command to start a loopback test, though. It's an interface 
configuration command.
