Patrick - in order for the routers to ping the opposite router's Ethernet
interface, you need to run a routing protocol (or use static routes) to get
that routing information in each router's table.
In order for each router to ping it's own serial interface, it needs to be
able to translate the layer 3 network information (IP address) to the
appropriate layer 2 information. This is dependent on the configuration. For
example, if you used frame-relay, then you need to associate the IP address
with a DLCI. This is done manually with the frame-relay map command.
You would really need to post configs for somebody on the list to "fix" it
for you, otherwise, just look at the layer 2 technology you have selected
and determine how layer 3 information is associated with layer 2. Once you
determine that, you should be able to find out where your config is
lacking...
