In a campus environment, I recommend having each building in its own HSRP
group. I recently had a client implement another pair of 6509, like you
said,
on their campus and performance from their call center to the main frame
(located in a building across the quad) became rather sluggish. I found that
packets destined for the mainframe were going through the building with the
new
6509s because they were on the in the same HSRP group configured with the
same
priorities so the router with the highest IP address took control as the
designated (active) router for that given VLAN. Once I implemented the
change
of group numbers the problem went away.
