I have designed networks using PPP specifically because of the AAA 
functionality it offers.  HDLC has virtually no security, and was useless 
for designs for this specific customer.

It's always useful to know how both work, as you can guarantee that it will 
come up in one exam or another (that's a big hint if you get what I mean.)

PPP is useful for real-time as it can handle multiple paths for real-time 
better than HDLC.
