I'm a bit stumped. I was building an NT4 box to run CSPM on and had an open slot and no blanks to fill it, so I saw a Token Ring NIC that someone sent me and figured that'd work to plug the hole ;-p Anyway, I downloaded the software from IBM's site (much newer and more configuration options than the built-in NT4 drivers). I could have sworn I got it working that night (but it was way late, I had routing enabled on the NT4 box and a 10/100 NIC which had a default route which would have path to the 2502's), and the MAU's 3rd light was on, so I think I got it working. Anyway, I've gone round and round on the darn thing, and here is where I'm stuck presently: Adapter IBMTOK1 : Failed to open. The most common causes of a fail to open are: (a) there is a problem with the cable, (b) the MAC address, either burned-in or locally administered, conflicts with another station on the network, (c) the adapter is set to open at the incorrect media speed,(d) the adapter is the first station to open AND the adapter is set to autosense the media speed. Adapter IBMTOK1 : The adapter is no longer open on the ring. The MAU is on, I'm using a CAT5 cable I made that same night (hmm, just had a thought). OK, found the solution. ARGH! Hehehee, good troubleshooting knowledge though. Ok, perfectly good CAT5 cable, but I made it about 15 ft. long (I only need about 7 to reach to the MUA), and wound up the extra in long circles in my wire management when I finished the next day. Well, that was the problem. I pull the cable out, stretched it out long, plugged it back in, and *click*, I hear the happy sound of the mechanical relay clicking over. Yippie! This is why I like this list: it makes me think and go through stuff a second time that I might otherwise choose to skip. Hmm, perhaps I'll announce my search for a study partner next. -- Jason Roysdon, CCNP+Security/CCDP, MCSE, CNA, Network+, A+ List email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Homepage: http://jason.artoo.net/ Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7&i=4290&t=4290 -------------------------------------------------- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
