You could use either the Type 1 (IBM 8228) MAUs with DB-9 to ICS (IBM
Cabling System, also known as the Boy George connector) plug or RJ-45 MAUs
with Media Filters. Or a combination of both. There are also adapters that
allow an RJ-45 UTP connection into an ICS, so you could conceivably use
Media Filters with the RJ-45 to ICS adapters into an IBM 8228. Lots of
possibilities.
The Token Ring Media Filters are basically DB-9 to RJ-45 converters that
allow Token Ring over UTP (Type 1 cabling by definition is STP)
Of course, these are basics that all of us network engineers know already,
right??? ;-)
