Different IPX EIGRP Autonomous Systems are considered different routing
domains, the same as IP E/IGRP and OSPF and BGP. Keyword is Autonomous.
:-)
Advantages: You can run multiple IPX networks that don't interact with each
other, which equates to privacy.
Disadvantages: You have to redistribute routes to allow different IPX AS'es
to communicate with each other
Complexity of managing different AS'es
If IPX EIGRP is used, and you want the IPX networks defined on the VLANs to
be transported over the Frame Relay network, using 1 autonomous system would
not be recommended. If you used multiple AS'es, redistribution between them
would be required. Using different AS'es is not comparable to OSPF Area
routing - that's an apples and oranges comparison.
The probable reason that CCO doesn't cover different AS'es is the definition
of Autonomous System - I guess they figure that we understand that each AS
creates a separate routing domain.
Here's a question for you: could you set up the same IPX network in
DIFFERENT AS'es? Think about it...
