The problem may be one I ran into ... how new is your disc? 

The data is compressed or somehow made unreadable (which is why you see
garbage). The Verity client (search.exe) that runs when you start the
disc converts it to usable text. Win2k was out for quite some time
before Verity provided Cisco with software that runs correctly on win2k.
The first disc I found to run was from Sept. Late spring from last year
doesn't work ... I have no idea about in between.

Now, can anyone tell me why I have to restart the verity software every
couple of minutes on my win2k laptop? :-)
