generally, Cisco announces end of life, and publishes a time frame for end
of sale of product, spare parts, and support. They do so in order that
customers can plan effectively. For example, if I had a large cat 5000
installation, and wanted to buy more switches, EOL would tell me that I
should be investing in the 4xxx or 65xx platforms, rather than buying more
5xxx boxes. For the major products, EOL time frames tend to be a couple of
years.

Subject: discontinued products [7:9362]
Hello,
I just noticed that in the "Cisco Products Quick Reference Guide-Jan 2001",
the "Cisco Cache Engine 500 Series" has been discontinued. Does this also
include support on this product? Is there a rule of thumb on this process?
Thanks,
Robert
