You don't really need to go through the headache of recovering from your serial interface. At the rommon prompt, enter into global config mode and configure and IP address and subnet mask of an ethernet interface. Make sure your TFTP server resides in the same subnet. Yes you need to install a TFTP server on your computer. >From your Cisco router, try pinging your PC. If successfull, enter the command copy tftp flash Your router will demand the IP address of your TFTP server (your PC's address) After entering the IP address and hitting enter, your router will prompt you for a the filename. Enter the IOS filename in your TFTP server. Your router will download a new flash image. Goodluck (Entire process takes less than 5 minutes) ----Original Message Follows---- From: "DOCSIS ATP Rack#2" Reply-To: "DOCSIS ATP Rack#2" To: "john, Dang" , "Jeff Theobalt" , "Fawad Alam" , CC: Subject: Re: [sc] Flash Upgrde problem on Cisco 2600 Date: Sun, 15 Jul 2001 21:38:51 -0700 John, You can recover from a catastrophic failure by reloading via the serial port using Xmodem or Zmodem (I think). I've done this before - it's painful - but you can recover. I'm not sure if this is what is required - but if your router is brain dead and can't tftp - this this is your only choice. It happened to me with a 3620 - took about 2hrs. before I was completely back up.
