I'm looking at the CCO command reference:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios121/121cgcr/ip_r
/iprprt2/1rdbgp.htm#xtocid142341
watch the wrap

and if I interpret what I read correctly, there is no default ttl assigned
with ebgp-multihop.

on the other hand, I see that if one does enter the neighbor ebgp-multihop
with no value, then a show run reveals a 255 has been entered.

seems like the command reference and the reality of the IOS are in conflict
here.

Chuck

Remember, if you use the Loopback address, that counts as another hop. You
use the command in the syntax:
neighbor [ip-address|peer group] ebgp-multihop [ttl]
If you don't specify a ttl it assumes 255. If you don't enter the command
is defaults to 1.
