Daniel,

One very inexpensive solution would be OpenBSD. OpenBSD is, as its name
implies, a derivative of BSD Unix. The entire code base has been audited to
close security holes and as the distribution is not of US origin (Canada),
it can include cryptography such as SSH and IPSec.

The software is free for download, with nominal cost for the CD's
($30.00US). Get the current version on CD's and a couple of PC boxes and
your in business. Even if you buy new PC's the total cost would be under
$3,000. Any fairly modern Pentium class (750Mhz or higher) should be
capable of encrypting 11Mbps of 3DES traffic. Here's a link for some
performance numbers from one of the OpenBSD mailing lists:

(note that speeds of 60Mbps and higher are possible with hardware accelrator
cards)

OpenBSD will also run on just about every other major hardware platform out
there, so you could get a couple of Sun Sparcs (my personal favorite) and
the cost would not be too much more, certainly under $5,000 for a couple of
rack mountable Sun Netra X1's.

Kent

Subject: VPN Solution for Site to site Wireless connection [7:22101]

We deployed some wireless bridges with 11Mbps throughput. We are seeking
solutions which are not too expensive to encrypt 11Mbps. However, we
calculated the cost, if we use cisco 2600 with VPN card, for one pair, the
price easily goes over $15,000.

Could any one provide solution around or under $10,000. Regardless the brand
of products, as long as it works fine.

Thanks,

Daniel
