I know that if you want to write for Unix , you should
learn C very well, but how about if
you wanna code for routers and switches or embedded
systems. Should I focus on C++ more so than C???

If you where coding for routers or switches it is more
likely that you would need to specialise on a
particular networking area e.g IP routed versus
routing protocols or even down to BGP versus OSPF.

Your C knowledge would probably be of more importance
than C++ since Unix is written in C and most
Router/Switch devices are written in C. You should be
aware though, that while this type of work you are
considering is very interesting from an Engineering
perspective, it can also result in your key skills
being so specialised that you may find it difficult to
work in any other programming field i.e Application
Development in general. I fell into this trap myself
writing protocol analysis software. When I looked
elsewhere for different types of work companies
couldn't understand what I had done and found the work
odd compared to those who worked in banks etc
shuffling VB around for twice as many bucks.
