Type 7 passwords use a simple two-way encryption algorithm called Vigenere cipher that can be cracked with any number of decryption programs available on the Internet. Type 5 uses a much more secure one-way MD5 hash. Without a super computer, it is almost impossible to crack a type 5 password. This is why is so important to use an "enable secret" password instead of an "enable password" password.
