I have the same problem. I purchased a Compaq Presario (Pretty-Sorry-O, as
pronounced by another engineer). It has no serial port. I paid $1399 for
it at Costco. Today they told me to bring it back and they'll refund my
money. I ordered a Toshiba (with a serial port, 1GHz vs. 850MHz, more RAM,
etc.) from the Costco web site for the same price. What's nice is if that
machine doesn't work out for me, I can take it back to Costco here in Plano
and they will refund my money.

Gotta love great customer service.

well I got a new laptop in at work today and they order it
without a 9 pin serial port. I did however find a USB to serial
cable but it does not seem to be working very good. Anyone else tackled
this problem? what choices do I have except keeping the old laptop.
