I bought a 3620 from the states. The seller declared it as worth #1200, I got a nice #250 odd VAT bill.
I have bought lots of other stuff, and not had to pay VAT, but nothing that expensive. There must be a value threshold. Best to call the UK Customs I think, or be prepared to pay VAT on top.
