If you're using the ethernet port there are still a few things that can go wrong. Are your laptop and router directly connected? If so, are you using a crossover cable? Can your router ping the laptop and vice-versa? If your cabling and IP addressing are correct and you have your tftp server software running, all should be well. Are you using Cisco's tftp server software on your laptop? I have CISCO and 3COM If so, do you have the tftp directory set to the correct location? I can Without more details it's hard to help.
