$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ the CCIE has become the coin of the realm for Cisco and their channel partners. Partners get better discounts, and thus can sell more equipment than can the mom and pop shops. Have to have so many CCIE's on staff to achieve the various partner levels.
within the Cisco sales organization itself, they believe it is more conducive to sales to have CCIE's in the faces of customers telling them how to do things.
