I can tell you I also had problems with the 8XE1 module on a 7206VXR: i saw
LOF on a controller configured in UNFRAMED mode, when I changed the
channel-group to timeslots 1-31 on both ends of the link it went up, I
reverted then to UNFRAMED on both ends and it stayed up ever since...
