I agree with Steve. We had similar problems with our 6509s as well. They would need to be power cycled because of Sups that died every 3 days or so. I re-seated the Sups, swapped slots, even did Sup code upgrades but that didn't fix things. Eventually we RMA'd the Sups and now we have been humming along for 45 days with no problems (I hope I haven't jinxed us). The only difference I noticed was a more recent Hw version of the PFC.
While I was going through this, I happened to speak with another guy at the same data center with 6509 woes. He said that he had RMA'd 3 Sups for the same chassis in the previous 10 days. That wasn't the encouragement I was looking for at the time. Here's what our problem Sups looked like: WS-X6K-S2U-MSFC2 Hw : 2.2 Fw : 6.1(3) Fw1: 6.1(3) Sw : 6.3(3) Sw1: 6.3(3) WS-F6K-PFC2 Hw : 1.4 MSFC: (C6MSFC2-IS-M), Version 12.1(3a)E4 Rohm At 08:40 AM 1/28/2002 -0500, steve skinner wrote: >hi, > >i have had something similar...but to fault-find answer us these questions >please > > >1) have you tried to a total shutdown/re-seat the sup(check all connections >on the board- LONG SHOT-but easist >2) have you upgraded your ios recently ? - possible >3) are the freezings random....? >4) if not how long are the freezing`s apart ? >5) are there any power issues ? >( i once had a UPS playing up which would cause my 6500`s to freak) >6) what is the tempreture of the room there are in ? > > >these are all issues that need to be looked at > >let us know how you get on > >HTH > >steve > >From: "Joel Satterley" > >Reply-To: "Joel Satterley" > >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > >Subject: Probelms with 6509 + MSFC freezing [7:33413] > >Date: Mon, 28 Jan 2002 06:15:01 -0500 > > > >Anyone experienced this, all routing stops, only to be brought back to life > >by > >resetting the switch... ? > > > >MSFC IOS is on 12.0(7)XE.
