The IP address is assigned to the command and control interface. The monitoring interface does not have IP address assigned to it.
On a simple network setup, the monitoring interface is connected to the segment where the router connects to the firewall. You will need to turn on SPAN or port monitoring if you are using a switch. The command and control interface, depending on the network design, can be connected to a segment behind the firewall. cheekin ----- Original Message ----- From: "Shane Stockman" To: Sent: Thursday, February 21, 2002 7:50 PM Subject: IDS 4210 help again [7:36047] > I have setup the ids with the all the relevant in for such as the sensor and > ids manager details as well as the ip address, netmask, default gateway. > My question is that if 1 interface is the monitoring interface and it is > connected to the internet router and the other is the command and control > interface and that is connected to my switch , that interface needs and > address if I am correct as it will have to have a vlan number. > > Which interface uses the ip address that I entered in the configuration and > how will I get the command and control interface to work ? > > Thanks > > > > _________________________________________________________________ > Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp.
