Well, you haven't said what IOS or hardware you're using, which could make a difference. Have a look at the following URL - it may clear up your questions. I haven't read it thoroughly myself, but note the usage guidelines..."You can configure point-to-point software compression for all LAPB, PPP, and HDLC encapsulations. HDLC encapsulations supports the Stacker compression algorithm. PPP and LAPB encapsulations support both predictor and Stacker compression algorithms. " Note no mention of FR encapsulation.
