I checked the web, and saw some places that say a minimum of .5M (1.5Ft), but I also ran into another place that says 2M (~6Ft). I know that we have and do commonly use 3Ft patch cables for 100Mbps ethernet and it works fine, so between the two, I'd say that 1.5Ft could indeed be a minimum. However, I believe that in the olden days, the minimum distance between stations on 10Base-2 was something like 6Ft, but modern ethernet uses a different electrical technology that 10Base-2.
