IIRC, set spantree root is a macro is a macro, and it's a combination of commands, one of which is to make the priority a liitle over 8k. Not only does it change the priority, but does some other calculations as well. I think the 5 is for the number of hops in diameter the netwotk is. If I'm wrong, there are people on this list smarter than me who will correct me.
