The major difference probably is that the salesman you are talking to 
sells the intelligent switch and the competitor sells the 
non-intelligent switch. :-)  There really isn't a well-defined 
technical difference.

As you suggest, it MAY mean that the non-intelligent switch has no 
SNMP capability, or even no remote control.
